During his presentation, he shows how gold-standard retinal imaging techniques and cutting-edge adaptive optics technology were successfully combined in a single compact clinical protoype. He will reveal images from patient’s eyes that confirm the performance of the instrument, including cellular resolution in 3 dimensions.

The 8th International Congress on OCT and OCT angiography in Rome (ICOOR) will be held online on December 18-19.

Prof. Michael Pircher will present the MERLIN project

During his presentation, Prof. Pircher from Medical University of Vienna will reveal the latest images delivered by the MERLIN prototype. He will show how OCT, OCT angiography, SLO and adaptive optics technologies could be combined into a single compact retinal imaging instrument.

For registered attendees, the presentation will be available online until February 2021.

As the design of the MERLIN instrument is complete, the project enters a very exciting phase.

A first prototype unit, fully integrated and equipped with a graphic user interface, has passed safety tests successfully. It delivers OCT, SLO, AO-OCT and AO-SLO images.

After final calibration, Imagine Eyes will transfer this MERLIN unit to the Quinze Vingts National Eye Hospital in Paris. One month later, a second prototype will arrive at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. Clinical validation with  these two sites will then begin.

The collaborative efforts on designing the instrument do not stop with its transfer to the clinical partners. Indeed, the technical partners will continue their developments, to implement improvements and additional functionalities over the course of the clinical validation.

 

 

On October 12-14, the Innovative Imaging for Eye Disease conference (i2Eye) gathered a hundred speakers and attendees from Europe and North America. 

Several speakers presented about multimodal retinal imaging as well as cellular and microvascular imaging using adaptive optics technology. They showed how it enables further understanding diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, and help improve clinical care.

INSERM, the National Institute of Health and Medical Research, hired Dr Kiyoko Gocho, ophthalmologist and medical researcher, as well as Dr Josselin Gautier, postdoctoral researcher. They will work on the clinical evaluation of the MERLIN device at the Quinze-Vingts National Eye Hospital.
